Bicycle theft research project : report to the State Bicycle Committee of Victoria

Abstract

This is a report on a project funded by the Criminology Research Council. The original title of the project, in the name of the State Bicycle Committee of Victoria, was "The potential for bicycle theft reduction in Victoria and Australia.". The report investigates the nature and extent of bicycle theft and provides specific recommendations for reducing theft and increasing recovery rates. Appendices to the report cover a review of Victoria Police practices with respect to bicycle theft; a review of interstate and overseas practices; a survey of bike theft victims; a survey of the use of bicycle security devices; and a survey of bike thieves. Includes a report appended to the final survey, titled "Young bicycle thieves" by Dennis Challenger.
